Chedi Restaurant, Newtown, Sydney

After several great recommendations, not just about the food but service I knew I had to experience this for myself. I myself am not new to Thai foods, however I was pleasantly surprised by the contemporary twists on the menu that Chedi provided; A Fresh Approach to Thai – a return to the balance of flavours and contrasts of taste
Upon arrival I was somewhat disappointed that the restaurant had been renovated to no longer include on the floor seating. Seating aside the rest of the surrounds were comfy and cosy, and just what I was after in terms of a nice evening out with my SO.

The somewhat dimmed lighting was set at just the right level and complemented the relaxing decor well.

Well, enough about interior designs and on with the food!

I was initially a bit reluctant to order this, however with little persuasion from my SO, I was swayed. I found the presentation cute and I was eager to unravel the parcel. In any case, my initial reluctance gave way to bewilderment as I took my first taste. The texture was new and unique, and the taste delightful, and the taste of the banana leaf managed to cling to the soufflé. Not being much for heavy foods though it became a bit much for me towards the end of it. But not wanting it to go to waste, or sacrifice my portion I hurriedly shoveled it down.

The main course consisted of:

The ratio of meat to vegetables was very generous on their part, and this dish was my favourite of the meal. The flavour when eaten alone is alittle on the strong side, but went perfectly with a bowl of rice which could be ordered for a mere $3 per person, and could be refilled.

with lychee and pineapple.

The lychee and pineapple that we found in the curry was a nice surprise. Once again, unlike many other Thai restaurants I have frequented, there was a generous amount of duck in the dish.

Unfortunately I do not much enjoy Thai desserts, so the evening ended there without the prospect of dessert.
